How does Ivy's Cloth Diaper Service work?

Cloth diapers have never been easier. Our service is simple. You simply leave your bag of dirty diapers outside your front door once a week and we come by and replace/ them with clean, soft, sanitized diapers. That's it! You don’t even need to be home.

Each week we will drop off the clean diapers in a pail liner. In order to get started, just unpack the clean diapers at your changing station and use the pail liner to hold the dirties. No need to soak, rinse, or wash the dirty diapers if the poop isn’t solid yet, just chuck them in the bag and forget about them until delivery day! If the poop is solid (after solid food has been introduced) just flip the poop into the toilet and put the dirty diaper in the pail liner as usual.

How many diapers do I need?

Generally we recommend 70 diapers per week for the average newborn. 60 is usually enough for 6-12 month olds and 50 is standard for toddler age. Here’s how your diaper rotation works.

Week 1: We drop off 70 diapers

Week 2: We drop off 70 diapers, we pick up 65 dirty diapers

Week 3: We drop off 65 diapers, we pick up 68 dirty diapers

Week 4: We drop off 68 diapers, we pick up 62 dirty diapers

Etc., etc., etc...

You will never be without plenty of fresh, clean diapers!

How do I get started?

We will schedule a day for your orientation appointment and while we are there, we will drop off your first rotation of diapers in a waterproof diaper pail liner and also give you 3 free Snappis for your use. Snappis are the modern version of a diaper pin. A Snappi will keep the diaper in place without sticking you or your baby. We will stay for as long as necessary and give you a hands-on tutorial on how to use cloth diapers and answer any and all questions you may have. At that time we will also collect payment for the first month's service as well as any accessories you have orderd. Please see our Shop page for more information on our accessories.

If your child has already arrived, you may begin using the diapers immediately and pick-up/drop-off will begin immediately on your designated delivery day. If you are pregnant or welcoming a new child into your home, please call us 3-4 weeks before your due date and we will set up a time for your orientation appointment. After your appointment, hang on to your diapers until your child is born and then beginning using them normally. When you are ready, login to your account on our website and add your service to your recurring items.  Delivery will begin automatically on your designated delivery day.

If you are too busy with other things during that exciting time, just contact us and we can get your account set up for you.

What is your service area?

We deliver 30 miles in all directions from downtown Charlotte. That covers the entire Charlotte metropolitan area, which includes Mooresville, Cornelius, Huntersville, Kannapolis, Concord, Harrisburg, Mint Hill, Gastonia, Belmont, Lake Wylie, Fort Mill, Rock Hill, Tega Cay, Pineville/Ballantyne, Matthews, Waxhaw, and Weddington. If you live beyond that you may still be able to use our service with a small additional fuel surcharge. Give us a call and we'll chat!

How do I pay for my service?

You have two options for paying your balance.  If you login to your account, then click on Account Options>Modify Your Personal Information, you will be able to choose "Credit Card" or "Check" as your payment method.  If you choose credit card, you will put in your credit card information, and we will run your credit card on the first of every month for your full balance.  There is no way for you to run your own card, it has to be done on our end.  So, if you would like us to take care of automatically charging your card, put in your credit card information and your card will be charged every month with no further action needed from you.

If you would rather not have your card automatically, then you will select "Check" as your payment method.  This method will allow you to set up online bill pay through your bank or mail us personal checks when you want to pay your bill.  Either option is fine with us.

When we drop off your first delivery of diapers, we will collect the first month's payment.  After that, you will be emailed an invoice on the first of every month. Please see our Pricing page for more details.

Compostable Diaper Service

What is a compostable diaper?

A compostable diaper is just like any other diaper you would find at the supermarket, only it will naturally break down through a controlled composting process. The end result is a natural fertilizer, otherwise known as mulch, which can be used as landscape filler in places such as parks and golf courses. The diaper is primarily made using sugar from corn feedstocks and contains no petroleum-based plastics.

Regular disposable diapers are made out of plastic. Plastic does not break down. A plastic disposable diaper will sit in a landfill for the next 250 years - we hope. To be honest, nobody knows when they will break down because the very first disposable diaper has yet to do so.

Why a compostable diaper service and how does it work?

Disposable diapers are the third largest single consumer item in landfills and each baby in regular disposable diapers contributes a half ton of waste to landfills every year. Up until recently, the only environmentally friendly option was using reusable cloth diapers. Now there is another choice, offering the convenience of disposable diapers without any diapers being added to landfills.

Our compostable diaper service is a weekly service, providing 100% compostable disposable diapers to your door. You order the compostable diapers  (or "Green Disposables") and we deliver them to your home. The next week, and every following week, we come by and pick-up your dirty diapers. The dirty diapers used by your baby will then be transported to our composting facility and composted. Around 45 days later, the diaper and everything in it will have been composted into mulch. It is a great hybrid offering that allows our customers the convenience of a disposable diaper while still respecting the environment. By using our service you will, in a very real way, be helping the world become a greener place.

When your baby needs changing, simply toss the diaper into a diaper pail lined with the provided compostable bag. On your pickup day, tie the end of the compostable bag and place it on the curb. After pickup, the diapers will then be run through a controlled composting process which breaks down the contents and eliminates any possible harmful bacteria. We do not necessarily need every diaper back. If you happen to be traveling, or out of the house, you may throw away the diaper like you would any other disposable. Keep in mind, though, any biodegradable or compostable diaper which ends up in a landfill will not break down.

How much does it cost?

We offer two brands of compostable diapers for our customers' convenience.  Our premium brand of Green Disposable diaper is Broody Chick.  Broody Chick products contain only natural, fully compostable material from annually renewable resources, with a 90% reduction in greenhouse gases vs traditional synthetic material. Helping you help the environment. Made from nature's sustainable resources, Broody Chick diapers are 100% natural and fully compostable.  Broody Chick diapers come in a variety of sizes to find the perfect fit for your baby.  They are chlorine free, breathable, hypo-allergenic, and fragrance free.   Each box of Broody Chick diapers is $18.99 per box and the wipes are $7.95 (80 wipes). Each box contains 24 to 36 diapers each, depending on size.

We also offer Nature BabyCare diapers as a second Green Disposable option.  Nature BabyCare diapers are 100-percent chlorine-free and keep oil-based plastics away from baby's delicate skin.  The absorbent pulp comes from sustainably harvested forests and the patented center-channel means a less bulky fit while enhancing leak protection.  These diapers use natural materials instead of plastic and are super soft and cloth-like providing comfort without sacrificing protection.  Each box of Nature BabyCare diapers is $13.99.

In addition to purchasing the diapers and wipes, there is also a monthly Composting Fee of $30 for our Green Disposable service. As an example, if you go through 4 boxes of Nature BabyCare diapers each month and 2 packets of wipes, the cost would be $56 (diapers) + $16 (wipes) + $30 (delivery and composting) for a total of $102 per month. In order to maintain the integrity of our composting process, you will be required to use our compostable diapers and compostable wipes.  Only our Green Disposable diapers and wipes can be left out for pick up and composting.  Any unopened boxes may be returned for a full refund or credit at the end of service or during a size change.

If you are already a cloth customer and want to supplement your cloth service with some of our Green Disposable diapers, your Composting Fee is only $15 per month.

How many boxes do I need?

We recommend 4-8 boxes per month, depending on size.  If you have a newborn at home, you will probably need closer to 7-8 boxes per month.  Toddlers will mostly likely only need 4-5.  Your diapers will be dropped off at the beginning of each month, however if you need more you can always purchase additional diapers to be dropped off on your next delivery day, as needed. We do recommend purchasing as many as you think you will need for the month to avoid the possibility of running out of diapers.

Do I have to pay to compost my Green Disposable Diapers?

If you are already a current cloth customer, you do not have to compost your Green Disposable diapers.  Obviously, we would prefer to pick up your dirty diapers and compost them as that is the only way for these diapers to fully breakdown with no environmental impact.  However, Ivy's Diaper Service is here to servce you!  We understand that there are situations when picking up and composting your diapers is not possible or convenient.  If you are traveling, your child is attending a day care that does not accept cloth diapers, or you are having trouble getting babysitters or family members on board with your cloth diapers, our Green Disposable diapers could be right for you.  You can order boxes of Broody Chick or Nature BabyCare diapers to use in these situations.  If you purchase our Green Disposable diapers and use them just like a conventional disposable (meaning you throw them away instead of having us come and pick up your dirty diapers), you do not have to pay the Composting Fee.  You would simply order the boxes you need and we would deliver them along with your cloth diapers.  This is not the greenest option as these diapers would still end up in a landfill somewhere, but you can at least rest assured that your baby would be wearing all-natural diapers without any of the harmful chemicals found in conventional disposables.  The diapers you would be throwing away are not made of petroleum based plastics which take hundreds of years to break down.  Using our Green Disposables in this way is not the "crunchiest" way to diaper, but it's at least "creamy."  This is only applicable  to current cloth customers.

If you are not a current cloth customer but would like us to deliver Green Disposable diapers to your home, we can certainly do that, but there will be a $7.50 delivery fee for that service.

Dalmatian Diaper Service

Our Dalmatian Diaper Service is the most cost effective service we offer and works just like our regular cloth diaper service. Our normal washing process has a stain rate around 2-3% and after being in business for several years, we have collected a fair amount of stained diapers. These diapers have been sanitized through our regular washing process, however they contain spots here and there which prevent us from keeping them in our regular cloth service. Ivy has certainly worn her fair share of stained diapers over the years, and with a diaper cover on, no one sees the diaper anyway. We thought it would be a great way to offer cloth diapering in a convenient and more affordable package.

Our Dalmatian service is based solely on availability and our inventory of stained diapers.  Obviously, we do not stain our diapers on purpose so our inventory is increased as diapers are stained naturally.  Dalmatian diaper service may not be available at all times.

Pricing for our full-time Dalmatian Diaper Service is $17 per week and subject to availability. That's just 17 cents a diaper! Just like the regular service, you will need diaper covers as well which can be purchased from us or found online.
